The Alberta Amatuer Wrestling Association is a not for profit organization that is directed by the executive committee. The executive committee is nominated annually by the AAWA membership at the annual general meeting held every June in Red Deer.  Presidential elections are 2 year nominations, the previous president takes up the role of Past President.  The Alberta Amatuer Wrestling Officials Association nominates the officials representative at the AAWOA Officials annual general meeting and the Athlete's representatives are elected typically at the University of Calgary tournament in October.  All other positions are annual positions elected at the annual general meeting.  In an attempt to keep wrestling balanced in the province the Alberta Amatuer Wrestling Association has a guideline to ensure representation from all parts of the province.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to speak to an executive member in your area or contact the AAWA via the contacts page.

Jerry Derewonko - President - Edmonton

Jerry Derewonko is the coach of St. Cecilia Junior High School in Edmonton.  Jerry has been a long-time member and contributor to the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association.  Jerry is responsible for running the Paperweight tournament and has been a crucial component of the Alberta Winter Games Program.

The president's role is to preside over our executive meetings and to represent the will of the association at the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association annual general meeting.

Mitch Ostberg - Past President - Calgary

Mitch Ostberg is the head coach of the University of Calgary Dino's wrestling team and has been a long time contributor to the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association.  Mitch has coached several Can-West, CIS and National Champions and brings several years of high-performance experience to the AAWA.

Andy Hutchinson - V.P. Technical - Calgary

Andy's contributions to Wrestling in Alberta have been far-reaching.  Heavily involved with the Canada Summer Games wrestling programs and director of the Rocky Mountain Wrestling Camp, Andy has brought to life several valuable programs in Alberta with an extremely positive impact on all the athletes across the province.

Monique Hubick - Secretary/Treasurer - Edmonton

Monique has been a long time contributor to the Edmonton Wrestling Club.  As a wrestling mom and dedicated contributor, Monique's insights have been a valued addition to the AAWA.

Lenis Thokle - Officials Representative - Calgary

Lenis has been on the AAWA executive committee for a total of 4 years as the Officials Representative and is a positive member of the association.

Stephanie Buchan - Female Athletes Representative - Calgary

Stephanie is a member of the University of Calgary Dino's wrestling team as well as a wrestling coach.  Stephanie recently attended the Canada Summer Games as one of the female team's coaches.

Mike Asselstine - Male Athletes Representative - Edmonton

Mike is a member of the Bears wrestling club and was recently sent to spain as a member of Canada's under 23 team.  He was a silver medalist at the 2009 Canadian Junior National Championships.

Mark Bond - Member at Large - Sherwood Park

Mark Bond is a wrestling dad who has been a valuable contributor at the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association.  Having accompanied his son, Jack, to several tournaments across Canada and the World; Mark has a wide view of wrestling from local to world championship events.

George Grant - Member at Large - Olds

George Grant is the ASAA Commissioner for Wrestling in Alberta and has been an advocate for women's wrestling in Alberta.  Hosting the first-ever all-girls extravaganza, George has laid the foundation for a wonderful event  that is set to occur in the future.

Tammie Bradley - Executive Director - St. Albert

Tammie Bradley has been a member of the AAWA Staff for more that 25 years.  Tammie has been the backbone of the Alberta Amateur Wrestling Association and has been responsible for the introduction of countless programs.

Mike Drought - Technical Director - Edmonton

Mike Drought is resposible for the promotion and development of programs within Alberta.  Mike was a juvenile athlete-turned-official who has been involved with the AAWA excutive as the Officials Representative.
